BOARD CARE
How to Care For Your Cutting Board
A well cared for cutting board will last in your kitchen for many years!
Board Care
Follow these guidelines carefully to best support the life of your cutting board:
- Hand wash only. Use soap and water and gently wash both sides of the board.
- Do Not place your cutting board in the dishwasher to be cleaned.
- Do Not soak or submerge your cutting board in water.
- Immediately after washing, completely dry your cutting board using a dish towel. This will prevent moisture damage.
- Do Not let the cutting board air dry (emphasizing again…moisture damage!).
- When the cutting board begins to fade and look well-used, re-apply the board butter!
How To Apply Our Homemade Board Butter
To make sure your board can provide you with the best it has to offer, you need to support your board with an occasional refinishing. Our homemade board butter is made of USDA grade food safe mineral oil and organic beeswax. The mineral oil will help give your board its shine and luster back, while the organic beeswax will help protect the board from staining and absorbing additional moisture.
To apply the board butter to your cutting board:
- Make sure your board is clean and fully dry before starting.
- Apply liberal amounts of the board butter using a dry cloth until the board is completely coated.
- Wait about 5-10 minutes to allow the mineral oil to absorb into the board. At this point, the wax will start to haze and dry.
- Wipe away excess wax with a new clean dry cloth until your board is buffed and polished.
- If necessary, repeat Steps 2-4 until you achieve your desired results.
For your boards best care, please refinish your board with our board butter every so often. If the board is used on a daily basis, refinishing will need to occur every 1 to 2 months. However, if the cutting board is more for display and is used every once and a while, please refinish every 6 months.
